Home Run 2020

A week ago, my dad and I joined a 5km fun run hosted by the service group Housing and Habitat called “Home Run”. As much as Dad and I wanted to believe that we would run the entire thing because we claimed ourselves to be the sporty type, I guess we’re wired to be more of the couch potato type, or at least that’s how we’d like to think of it. But after all the hesitations, we were glad to have mustered the will to get up at 5am on a Wednesday (It was Thaipongal holiday) to discover what the fun is all about a 7am 5km run. Nowadays, joining a fun run is one of the must-do activities ever since the health and wellness consciousness became a trend. It is one of the most popular events one should participate in especially if you want to develop an active lifestyle or simply be adventurous. Although this isn’t the case for me. I was told that this is a compulsory event for all SAISA athletes which did take most of the fun out of it. Reverse psychology if you will 😑. Nevertheless, I wanted to run the best I could. Sure, anyone can go jogging, but the experience in a fun run lies in running together towards a common goal of reaching the finish line. So that is what my dad and  I did for supposedly the first 2 and a half kilometres. I say this because the route was different from the previous years that we ran it. The route took us for a loop around the school back to school and then, even more, running around a HUGE lake!!! I was mentally prepared to finish the first time I came across the school. Heck, my dad didnt finish it, he stopped right there to use the “bathroom”. I continued and finished even though I did come dead last and walked most of the second half without Dad. I suppose at the end of the day this event is a positive impact in my life rather than just lazing around the house.
