SAISA Volleyball November 2019

There are many sports that people like to indulge in either for fun or as a profession. It is widely known that practising a sport is a great benefit to the person physically and psychologically. Nowadays, people need at least some form of exercise in order to keep in shape, to pass time or even “to feel alive”. The last reason is why, for the most part, it is more attractive why engaging in a sport affects a person’s attitude, both mentally and emotionally. However, the type of sport sometimes does not matter as much as whether it is played individually or with a team. There are various individual sports but the most effective activities are those that involve other players. They are effective because each player has to depend on each of the other members in order to be successful. Team building is a very essential aspect in most ball-based sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, etc, as they require the immense efforts of a team.

Through many trials and tribulations, I was, unfortunately, unable to travel with the team for the SAISA Tournament in Bombay due to a multitude of factors especially financial reasons. Despite this, I decided to train and help prepare the team for matches they would have by being a worthy opponent and making work ten times harder to win points than it would usually take.

There was also the choice of me wanting to do this to help me lose weight which I think is the more prominent reasoning because I do suffer from chronic obesity and bad diet. Therefore I at least wanted to go in a positive direction by choosing to do volleyball. Prior to this decision to do volleyball while lazing around the house in a summertime induced food coma, I was letting my mind wander and reflect back to the past times in my life that I normally try to keep myself from thinking of. During all the recollecting of my past memories I came to the dramatic realization: Volleyball saved my life. It wasn’t until my time at Sussex University that I discovered volleyball. My team in OSC bonded quickly, easily becoming close friends over the next couple of years as we learned the basics of the sport and perfected our skill in. I love my teammates. Its’s truly a shame that I didnt get to travel. I did, however, watch all their games and supported them from the sidelines back at home.
