Prompting Peace: Unity In Diversity Day 2023
An annual celebration that OSC has been following for several years has been a day dedicated to honoring all the nationalities of the students, teachers, and staff members of the school. This day has been named ‘UN Day’, yet it has been renamed Unity in Diversity Day (UD Day) this year. This is because it further promotes and includes all countries in the world that aren’t in the United Nations.
As usual, the day consisted of the national flag parade, where all the students of both primary and secondary school come together and stand under their country flag, and have a short walking parade in the school.
From here, we then continued on with an assembly with some performances that promoted the main topic of this year’s focus, which was on peace. As a DP 1 student, every year the DP 1 students are put into groups of 2-3 people, with a member from the COMUN group too, where we get assigned a grade level to give a workshop on that relates with the focus topic. Alongside another DP student and a 7th-grade COMUN student, we got put with the first graders. With our task of giving them educational activities that connect with learning about peace, we had to make sure to take into consideration how there were just around 6-year-old kids, who would need this topic to be broken down very deeply. Therefore, we created an outline that is more suited for this group, which we then created into a presentation activity, as seen below.

In this presentation, it can be seen that we focused our activity on letting the kids interpret peace in situations they are likely to face, such as in school, but also give them an awareness of the SDG goals from the UN that branch out and the importance it has to the world we live in.
