Mali's CAS Journey

Sprinting to Success: SAISA Track and Field ’25 Progress!

The SAISA Track and Field season began towards the end of October, and is still ongoing! This year, we will be traveling to Muscat, Oman, to compete at The American International School of Muscat. The competition will take place in mid-February, but we are doing our best to take in all the training days we have before the competition.

So far, from October to now (December), we have had multiple forms of training sessions. Some days we focus more on endurance workouts, such as through interval training, whilst others may vary from strength, stamina, and intensity workouts. On Saturdays, we focus solely on field events. The events that I am currently planning on doing at the competition are the 100m, 200m, and 400m sprint, alongside the field events of long jump and discus. I will also be a part of the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay.

However, an issue we are having with our team this year, is the same as last year, being that the senior girls team (15 to 19 age group) has just 3 athletes! Last year we were in the same circumstance, meaning for our relay we had to have a girl from the 10-12 age group running with us. So far, we have practiced our relays without younger members, as it has gone quite well! I always make sure to motivate her to give her confidence, as I was in the exact same position as her back when I was in the 10-12 age group! I had to run with the senior girls’ team, which was a completely unplanned decision, as came down on the day of the competition when one of the senior girls had an injury. It was an unforgettable experience for me, and knowing how great the seniors had treated me then, I am passing the same treatment down, but with the roles reversed!
Now, being the oldest on the team, as the only senior, I have taken on the role of one of the team captains. In this role, I lead warm-ups, cool downs, and assist the younger members as a role model. I have gotten lots of recognition from my coaches for this, which motivates me to continue working this way!

With the December holidays just around the corner, I plan on ensuring to keep my fitness up, with workouts and forms of exercise at least 4 times a week. That way, when I come back to school after the holiday, I will not be back at square 1 as I was when the season started.

All in all, I was very excited for what the rest of this season has to come! I plan to continue training even harder than I am now and put myself in the best possible position I can be before the competition to be as ready as I can be. Last year, we won the competition, and I hope to do so again to be able to cherish my last ever SAISA even more!
