We Read to Kids

Recap Recap Recap

Reading Buddies has been a blast ! Even though we only had 3 this semester because of October break and summatives piling up, we all have really enjoyed these sessions a lot !

Since I already did a reflection of our 1st session a while, I decided to just start this off with our 2nd session.

23rd September

For this session, Vansh and I went to the library yet again to find the book. Our book was “Meet Me At The Moon”, a book that features elephants (Vansh was very enthusiastic of the book !). We both knew that the kids would love the story due to the many animals (mostly elephants) being shown and portrayed in this book. Hence why we chose to read it.

This book talks about being separated from your loved ones; in this case, the mom left to ask the skies for rain, the child elephant was worried, but finds a solution for what they’re missing.

This will relate to us after we graduate as we’ll be away from our friends and families, going alone in this next chapter in our life.

This session was a lot better than the last one. We managed to be more interactive, but we still needed to ask more questions since Ms. Ivonne kind of saved us during the questions. We both knew we really needed to improve on that, but I think we’ll knew how to ask questions that the kids will understand.

10th November

This session was a little different; due to the class size and the difficulty to get everyone together since they’re now in 2 classes, Vansh and I split into the 2 classrooms to have a smaller audience and read Ms Ivonne’s “big books” instead of going to the library. My book was “Bug Dance”. Bug Dance is a book about a bug class learning a dance, but this one character, Centipede, keeps tripping up.

There was this one kid who asked a lot of questions while I was reading the book, which was really nice since the reading was somehow engaging for them. In my own ways to make it engaging, I asked questions (eg: “what animals were there ?”) and did the dance with them, which was a lot of fun. Overall, this idea was a success as we feel they were more engaged and less nervous with us !
