Art – Creating a Collage

6/11/2023 – Creating a Collage
The collage on the left was created for one of my recent art classes. I decided to start a collage since I consider myself to be an extremely creative person. As an artist, I’ve been drawing and painting small art pieces since I was a child, and it’s a skill that I’ve carried with me throughout my life. Personally, I enjoy making art. It feels like an opportunity for me to express myself and, at times, communicate what I am feeling.  It can even feel like an escape on occasion, and it helps me wind down when I feel overwhelmed.  Recently, I decided to use my creativity once more to create a collage. Collage art is something that I had never previously experimented with, and I thought it would be a cool opportunity and experience to try out a new form of art. Collage art is the technique of composing an artwork by gluing a wide range of materials, which can include pieces of paper, fabric, and even newspaper clippings. The specific parameters for my project were to include aspects that resemble  me in any sort of way. As you can see on the left, I chose to depict my collage in the shape of a circle. This was mainly a matter of personal preference because I thought it would be more visually pleasing. You can notice in my collage that I selected to use/print out a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This was included since it is my dream car. I consider myself an enthusiastic car lover, and they simply seem to pique my curiosity a lot, which is probably due to my interest in Formula One. Behind the Porsche, I selected to cut out a background of the beach during sunset hour for a reason.

Going to the beach is one of my favorite activities. I love it, and it truly makes me feel at ease. Another thing that I enjoy doing is going surfing. When I’m in the ocean and paddling to catch a wave, I seem to forget about everything else and reach a level of focus that feels almost like an out-of-body experience.  The last time I went surfing, there was an amazing sunset, and the sky turned a beautiful orange color, and sitting down on my surfboard and watching the sunset was probably one of my favorite memories. It was an experience I would gladly relive again and again. A photo of Monaco is at the bottom of my collage. Monaco is an amazing place that I got to know from watching and following Formula One, as it is one of the most historic and famous events. Monaco is undoubtedly one of my favorite cities and somewhere I’d like to live in the future. The next thing on my artwork is a picture of the red bull RB19 formula one car. Red Bull is my favorite F1 team and during the 2021 season I dedicated a lot of my time watching them race and fighting for the championship. Probably the most important thing to me about this collage is a quote by my favorite tennis player and it says “A man who wins is a man who thinks he can ” – Roger Federer. This is a quote that has stuck with me throughout my athletic and sports career. Whenever I train for a competition I always try to tell myself that I have a good chance of winning it and then I work as hard as I possibly can to make it come through. I believe that if you don’t think you are the best then you have already lost, you need to have a winning mentality to be able to do and achieve anything.

The final thing on my artwork is my initials S.DSV – Sandeep De Silva
