IB Orientation 2023
I really enjoyed the IB orientation. It was a really good bonding experience for our grade, and it helped us establish stronger bonds and friendships with people we might not have spoken to otherwise. We visited the Kithulgala rain forest in Sri Lanka during the orientation. During our visit, we were hosted by Borderlands groups, who taught us a variety of skills, including how to white water raft and climb down slippery nature trails. In all honesty, I do not consider myself to be a fan of the jungle; I do not enjoy being wet and cold on a regular basis. Due to this I didn’t like being in the river because I was freezing. One thing I particularly appreciated was returning to camp at night, not just because it meant the difficult portions of the day were done, but also because it gave me a chance to talk to other people. Personally, I felt like I developed a few new friendships while also strengthening existing ones. My roommates, Akhil, Ansel, and Adam, were great. I felt like we were a really strong group that could support and be there for one another. Taking the 10-meter jump down the water fall was one of the highlights of this trip for me. Overall, I like it because I am someone who enjoys a lot of thrill and even a little danger, and this experience felt quite unreal. Dr.Leigh, my English teacher, gave us a cool take on it, calling it the dive and referring to the plunge that us students would need to take into the IB.
