Rukshi’s CAS Journey

DP2 CAS Goals

The unexpected events of this year drastically changed my life. From wearing masks all day to social distancing, everything we did before now is considered to be unsafe. It became the ‘new normal’. As a result, most of my plans for the school year have either been delayed or canceled. Many of the things I was excited about this school year now cease to take place. For that reason, my CAS goals are going to be a bit different this year.

ACTIVITY

My main goal this year was SAISA Swimming. Being unable to get into the SAISA swim team last year drove me to work twice as hard and get on the team this year. I began training in

March and carefully planned the next few months so that my technique and speed would be up to a good standard. When the first two seasons of SAISA got canceled, I was disappointed that one of the things I was most excited about and working for will no longer happen. So I decided to continue swimming with a fresh goal; to improve my fitness level and hopefully taking part in any upcoming swim meet.

Apart from SAISA, I regularly go to the gym 2-3 times a week to improve my strength. I occasionally run or bike ride and do home workouts. Other than swimming and going to the gym, I play badminton or basketball once or twice a week with my friends or family.

CREATIVITY

As I have said before, creativity is something I have always struggled with. After doing meditative coloring last year, I have a newfound interest in drawing. I’ve also discovered it to be very calming and stress relieving. And so, I spent my days in the DLP experimenting with paint and sketching. Therefore, this year, I plan to hopefully do an activity related to art or continue to draw and experiment with different techniques. Another goal I hope to achieve is to audition and possibly take part in a school production. I would also like to take piano lessons and learn how to read music again which are a few of my creative goals from last year that I was unable to complete.
SERVICE
Service this year is going to be different. Since my service group, ‘Hope for Kids’ main activity is to visit the National Cancer Institute in Maharagama and play with the kids, we will have to have a new aim for this year. Because visiting the cancer hospital is no longer an option. Although our school has not started service yet, I have a few ideas as to how we will continue helping and uplifting these kids remotely. Hopefully, I would also like to extend our services to other children’s hospitals.

Overall, my general goals for the school year have not changed. Even though this is a rather unusual year, my goal to be on top of my school work and do well in tests remains. In addition to school work, college applications, and my extended essay are also anticipated in the next few months. Another goal I have for myself is to relax and enjoy the school year. To not stress about the many uncertainties and stresses of schoolwork and the present world situation. I hope to do my best and create as many memorable memories as I can.
