Trying out digital art.

During the last few days, the IB had been very stressful as there were many assignments due back to back with barely anytime to breathe.

So during this weekend after the hectic week, I sat down to cleanse my mind of all the emotions you felt during the “week from hell” When I sat down in front of my computer, I felt this rush of inspiration and took the idea of nature and death and combined them. My idea came from this nature video I saw about Venus flytraps and the mechanics of how they caught insects.

But when I was drawing my art piece, I felt this strange nostalgic connection to it as if it was portraying the emotions I felt that week, the tiredness and anger and lack of freedom. I felt like creating the artwork was therapeutic as I realised all the suppressed feelings from last week into my artwork which made me less anxious about the weeks to come.

I used the planning skill that I’ve learned from IB art and roughly sketched my piece before jumping into it on procreate, a digital software. It was a bit of a process learning how to use it, but with a few youtube videos, I learned the basics and created the artwork that emulated my frustration.

Overall, during this emotional roller coaster of making this artwork, I built an appreciation for digital art and convinced me to try out this form of art for one of my actual IB art pieces. I also learned that meaningful artworks are created by channeling emotion and throwing it onto a piece of paper.
