TAS Modeling Workshop

To get a better scope of the modeling industry and what I was going to get myself into. I decided to join a modeling workshop to learn a few things and improve in the craft.

I joined The Agency Sri Lanka, is modeling workshop course also known as the TAS workshop.

In this workshop, we expected to learn a few aspects from presentations by senior models, get demonstrations on the walk for a runway, and pose for different types of photoshoots.

For the first lesson, I wasn’t able to make it as I was out of Colombo. But during this lesson, we were briefed on what we were going to expect during this entire course, which lasted around 4 weeks every Saturday.

I was fortunate enough to make it for the second session, where we had a workout session with The Agency‘s workout instructor. During this workout session, I wasn’t entirely tired as I am very used to very extreme activities as I am a national swimmer. But I could see that a lot of other models were exhausted with the workout. But in this workout, I learned that models target a lot of different body parts and strengthen different locations in the body compared to swimmers and other athletes. As for the model, that goal is to get the body as visually pleasing as possible, which means you’re working on more eye-catching muscles and that are easy to be captured by a camera. Mainly working on the abs, the upper body, the glutes, and cardio to burn fat.

During the third session, in the beginning, we began with some runaway walking practice. I never knew runway walking was really complicated till I was taught how to do it properly. As there are so many rules and tiny details that a model needs to do to portray an article of clothing as elegant and respect the designer on the runway. As I never knew that if a model looks down towards the floor on a runway, it is a gesture of disrespect towards the designer. But after some walking practice, we got a talk by two senior models who are very well known as Lanka; Ornella and Nathan, these are two models who have taken part in many patches for Sri Lanka and have Colombo fashion week numerous times, and I’ve been on many different covers. This book to us about the truth of the modeling Industry and how corrupt they can be and that it’s essential to do research before joining agencies and how it’s vital to be careful with these agencies as many clients without going through agencies, random photographers, or people might try to take advantage of you, which is one of the dangerous sides of the industry. I really like the honesty that came from both these models, and they also provide her with tips on how to be confident and also talked about their backstory of becoming a model and the hardships they went through. I was able to get a new insight into what the modeling industries like.

For the fourth day, the final day, we had a photoshoot which involved The Agency helping style clothes and helping us pose in front of the camera so well have images from our portfolio and certificate model cards. Reese time, there were three stations in different locations within the agency. The first shoot was in the main hall behind a black backdrop. In the second shoot, I transitioned to casual-wear in the garden in front of a neutral background and posed very casually. For the final phase, we posed in a very industrial building area and captured a formal look. I really enjoyed this part as I was able to work with other models beside me, as ita not often you can get advice on senior professional models onset itself.

Overall this was an exciting workshop, and I made many friends out of this situation that I still communicate to this day. And I think this will help me move forward with my cast goal of modeling as it’ll help me get better at the craft and get exposure to get more opportunities and model for different clients and expand my skills.
