“Strength lies in differences, and in similarities” Stephen R. Covey
2019 UN day was a day that the school celebrated the cultural and ethnic diversity the school consists of. This was also a day where it gives the students to learn about one of the many global issues discussed by the UN. This gave us, the DP 1 class an opportunity to teach different grades across the secondary school about global issues and providing them with solutions.
In a group consisting of Anargi, Mathisha and I, were supposed to discuss the issue of “Human Trafficking” and “Violence” under this year’s main theme of gender equality. The 1.30 min lesson turned out really well as the class consisting of the DP 1 and DP 2 students learnt about the issue and understood the scale of the problem the world faces and especially in a country like Sri Lanka. Not only we help discuss about the issue but the activity of teaching improved my skills such as teamwork and communication which are important skills that I will need now and in the future.
