The welcome back picnic is an event that our school holds annually when a new school year starts. It’s a great even for students/parents/teachers to bond again, and it’s also a great chance for new comers to get to build a larger social circle within our community.

Our service, Room to Read had planned to do a book sale in the picnic for a while, with books that have been donated to the library.

We have 4 leaders and even more members, but 2 of the leaders could not come, and only few of the members decided to come to the picnic, so Me and Aura, the 2 leaders left took on most of the time windows that were empty due to many absences.

I went to school early in the morning to play basketball before the picnic, and when the time came I started setting up the fan behind our stand, and started sorting out the books.

None of our books had a set price, they were donation based as all the money goes to building a library in a local school for the children, so people could pay how much they wanted. This went both ways, as it was a good way to notify people of where their money is heading to, but it also seemed like people were pressured to pay more as the word ‘donation’ felt as if they had to pay a ton for the children…Great sales strategy, but not the most efficient.

Rest of the day was quite repetitive. People come, we try sell books, and we end up with two possible endings. We sell books, or we don’t sell books.

At the end of the picnic it started raining so everyone went back.
