Gecko Inc- Service Restart

As we have started Service one again in this new school year some of us have been placed in new services, meaning that I was shifted from Gecko Net to Gecko Inc. In Gecko Net the service was more about aiding the OSC Community by taking photos and creating videos for services or for in school events. Whereas Gecko Inc focuses on teaching out of school local kids how to swim. This year our main focus has been about getting the local kids back into school as well as teaching the students who already are in the service what to do next year when kids are brought back into the pool.  What we have done so far is taught the kids as well as plan to create a handbook for the students to use to teach the others next year. As service leaders, Ritheek, Lithira and I have planned to create a teaching handbook for future Gecko Inc students. We will carry this out as a CAS Project in order to benefit the future of the students as well as create an efficient way to teach the local kids how to swim.

We have been alternating days in the pool as well as days in Mr. Van Zijl’s room planning out the future of the service. We have also been talking about an event after Home Run. The idea is a dive-in movie, like a drive in movie but in the pool so that people can cool down after the 5 km run. This is our main goal as of now and planning will further as we have more service days as well as time for planning between Ritheek, Lithira and I.

Our two main goals are to complete the planning for the dive-in movie that has to be coordinated with administration in school as well as the PE department to organize how many people we are allowed to have in the pool as well as if the pool will be free on that day. Our second goal is to get the handbook finished which is the main focus during our service days recently and we have begun the planning documents, the next step would be to sort out the formalities of the handbook and how we would get it printed.
