CAS GOALS 2020-2021

This is my first post on my CAS Blog as I embark of the journey of DP1 and the CAS experience as a whole, CAS has been used as a blog for students to express themselves and show a more personal side of themselves. It also helps students to balance out their school work with other activities, personally I am very excited to start my own CAS blog as I feel like this will give me a bit more motivation to be proactive and persistent with things that I actually want to do. COVID has also made CAS slightly harder as I have to think about how to do things whilst being in quarantine.

Creativity Goals:

For my creativity goals I have two aspects that I want to focus on for DP1, the first is COMUN. I have been chosen to be the Deputy Head of Media for COMUN 2021.  My job as Deputy Head of Media is to aid the Head of Media (Andrew Vu) in creating 7 videos for each of the committees, these will enable me to work and develop my video editing skills whilst incorporating some planing into things like posters, gaining a social following for COMUN and even starting a fundraiser which will talked about in the service goals. Whether COMUN will be online or in person outside of lockdown is still a decision that is up in the air. Regardless of where COMUN is going to be held this should not inhibit my ability to do the work I am assigned by the Secretary General and the Head Of Media. Once I start to make progress on what I have been assigned for I will start making posts on this CAS Blog. My other goal for creativity is to aid my sister in her attempt to make a fashion brand, my sister has been heavily intrested in fashion for a long time and she finally decided to pursue it on a new level, I am not as artistically gifted as my sister but more technologically gifted. To help her start up her brand I will be digitalising the hand drawn designs that she makes using photoshop. This is not only my sisters interest but mine too, as I have grown up around her she has assimilated me into her likes which is why I am also intrested in doing these designs for her on photoshop. I also think this will be a good use of my time as I often feel the urge to do big ideas and this will help me to channel my creativity into something which is not school related. My goal is to create at lest 5 designs for pieces of clothing. These are all things that I am able to do from home so COVID does not affect my creativity goals heavily.

Activity Goals:

When we started the CAS journey I had many ideas for activity but these started to become very limited once school was shut and new COVID rules were imposed. Initially I had planned to work on my three point shooting and try and increase my percentage when shooting 20 shots from 5 spots around the three point line, I was going to measure my percent before and then train for a couple of months and track my improvement, but because of COVID I am unable to do this as I do not have the space at home to shoot three pointers. Before COVID lockdown rules were reimposed I decided to get a basketball rim and attach it to my garage so that I could stay in shape and continue to improve as a basketball player. The furthest distance that I have on my hoop is just up to the free throw line. One of my biggest problems when it came to basketball was my shooting form and consistency of my shot, my shooting form has always used 2 hands when it is normally supposed to be 1 handed.  My CAS goal for activity is going to be to change my shooting form from 2 hands to 1 hand whilst keeping my shot as consistent as possible. The way that I am going to do this is by practicing 5 times a week and shooting at least 100 shots on these 5 days in the week. This part will help me to keep my shot consistent, as for my form I will be talking to my Coach and asking him how to correct my form. Once I have established what things I need to do to improve my form I will start practicing with the new form so that I can get used to it and assimilate the new shot into my game. I will be practicing shooting regularly with a new form so this will enable me to adapt to the new change and improve my consistency at the same time. I will monitor my improvement by seeing how many attempts it takes me to make 10 shots from behind the free throw line, I will take preliminary data and measure my consistency with my initial form and track the progress with the new 1 handed form.  The 10 fastest shots will be taking after I have completed 100+ shots. This will be tracked by me and supervised by my coach Praneeth Udumalgala. My other goal for activity is to improve my handle of the basketball and my dribbling skill. I will be doing this by practicing my dribbling for 20-45 minutes 5 times a week, whilst also going to a training session every week with my Coach so that he can give me instant feedback during drills and give me new drills to practice as I show improvement. I will measure this by taking preliminary data of how many successful tennis ball drills I can get in 1 minute.  I will then measure my progress after each month which will contain at least 4 sessions with my coach.

Service Goals:

In terms of my service for CAS I am going to focus on two aspects. The first being Gecko Net, Gecko Net is a service that specialises in technology and media creation aiding the school and other services. My goal in Gecko Net is to produce quality content and be on time with my submissions for different projects, whether it be finding photos for videos or creating videos for the service. My second goal is for Community Service within COMUN, I have been assigned the job of organising the community service project for COMUN along with 4 others. This will be done or shown through either a cash donation or donations to different services in Sri Lanka, Our goal is to generate money or donations from different schools to aid these services and help them out as they help other and we feel as it is good to aid them, this is also a necessity from COMUN. I will continuously update how this is going and whether we are creating fundraisers and etcetera.
