Daily Routine Under Curfew

It’s been almost two months since our school closed. Now that everything is else closed and I’m basically forbidden to leave the vicinity of my street. I’ve been left with a lot of free time on my hands. It’s taken quite a while but I’ve finally developed a routine that allows me to be productive but also not to overwork myself. I try to spend the free time I have catching up on all the things I’ve wanted to do and all the hobbies I’ve wanted to pick-up but never had the time to.

It’s been quite hard staying organized during distanced learning. I’m used to having the auditory reminders by teachers about the assignments and upcoming due dates, but now I rely on emails to remind me. So I started to I keep planner of sorts to keep track of the classes I have and the work I have to complete during those classes and any video conferences that I may have during the week. I find that now that I have a visual track of everything I’m definitely more organized.

My schedule for the month. The regularly gets updated as I get new reminders.

My day usually starts around 7:30 in the morning which allows me a little less than two hours to get ready. During this time I take my time to get ready for school and I plan out what I want to accomplish for the day. Once school starts I try to spend the full hour and a half on that subject. If I finish all my work for that class early I try to spend the rest of class time either finishing any homework assigned of trying to do a little extra work on that class.

After school is over I take a break from my laptop for a few hours. I spend this time taking my dog for a walk, helping my mom with chores around the house, or pursuing a new hobby. Around 5:30 I start on any homework that was assigned that day. I usually finish around schoolwork around 7:30. Afterward, I would have dinner and then continue working on whatever I was doing during my break earlier. I try to work out and get ready to sleep. Before going to sleep I try to stay away from my phone and instead read a few pages of a book. I aim to sleep at around 11 Pm.

For the weekends I divided them into three days. I like to think of them as “Core Day”, “OSC day” and “Online day”. Core days are spent working on anything related to the IB core i.e. CAS, ToK, or my EE. OSC days are spent completing work classes I take in school. Finally, my Online days resorted to my two courses on Pamoja or any courses that I am taking on Coursera.

I’ve kept this routine for a few weeks now, and while I do enjoy the amount of flexibility I have with it. I do hope that soon I will be able to go out safely again.
