Nayara’s CAS Journey

My extra-curricular activities at OSC

Big WinsšŸ¤©

So Iā€™m not going to lie, DP, along with COMUN and SAISA training and just life in general have been a bit stressful lately. Thus, I am super late on my CAS blog entries. Like I just recently uploaded my entry on the DP science trip, which was in December. It is February now. Whatever, better late than neverā€¦ right?Ā

Anyways, as SAISA football is approaching soon (itā€™s in 3 days), I thought Iā€™d make a blog entry on some of our (good) games, big wins. After our first somewhat disappointing game vs CIS, we knew that we had to start working harder. And that fact was definitely showcased in our next game. It was against Lyceum International School, at 10am on a Saturday morning. If you have been to Sri Lanka before, youā€™d know that the moment the sun rises, things get hot and sweaty; especially from 10-12, our game time. It was hot, but we delivered a good performance. We won the game 8:1 and I scored 2 goals. Now before you start applauding me, I think it is worth noting that the Lyceum girls team is quite young, and pretty inexperienced.

Then it was December break, which by the way was just great. I love holidays. I love sleeping and I love taking a break from working (letā€™s just ignore the fact that I actually had homework over the break, youā€™ve got to love DP). Now I was a bit nervous as we had a game vs Gateway College just as we were coming back from our holidays. But everybody was in great shape, and Iā€™m extremely proud of the team as we clutched a 7:1 win. Sadly I did not score any, but I did assist some of the goals, and you know what they say, ā€œthe assist makes the goalā€ (Iā€™m just saying that because I didnā€™t score). To be fair however, Iā€™m not a striker and scoring is not my main job. I play the center midfield, whoā€™s main role is to connect the defense and attack. I defend, but I also feed passes to the strikers, and occasionally, when I get the opportunity, I take a shot. After this game my coaches had also figured out the exact position they wanted me in whilst attacking. When attacking, they want me on the edge of the penalty box, and the moment I get the ball – shoot (they believe in my long hard shot capabilities). It turned out they were right as during our redemption game vs CIS, I scored 3 goals from that exact spot, aiding us with a 6:0 win. We also played a bit of 11 a side on a big pitch (previously only 7 a side). Last time I played 11 a side, Iā€™m pretty sure I went home crying (mentally). It was extremely difficult for our team last year, and our fitness levels did not help us. This year however, we smoothly transitioned into the 11 a side and won 3:0! I was extremely proud of the team as they were able to easily adapt into an 11 a side.

Again, before you go around telling everyone that our team is ready for the next women’s Champions League Game, the teams we played are all not very experienced, which allowed easier wins, plays and goals for us. The real test is about to come as we will play vs the women at Renown Football Academy, which by the way, are 18+ and include some national team players! Yay… But honestly, I am so happy we have this opportunity, so, wish us luck!!
