In Need of Elder Female Footballers⚽
Last week I went to the Kickerz Girls Session. It was interesting, to say the least. I had been to their football sessions before, however, that is when they didn’t have a separate girls division (which by the way is something I strongly encouraged them to do). Having been the only girl for the sessions I had done, was fine, just sad how women’s football isn’t a proper “thing”. I still loved the sessions and playing football, but I guess I just wished women’s football was more popular. Nevertheless, they now opened a girls division, which made me really happy. When I then finally went last week (I couldn’t before because I had an injury), the session went okay. It isn’t that it was bad, it was just that I was the only “old” girl, and all the others varied from age 5-14. Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy that these girls are starting young and are playing football, it’s great. However, when you’re only 17 years old, it’s a bit sad. Unfortunately, playing with these girls is not really helping me improve. Thus, I was thinking of training with either the 12-14 year old boys, or the older ones. Again, the fact that I would most likely have to play with 12 year olds, which to put into perspective, are my boys my brother’s age, is just unfortunate. Furthermore, it is just sad to see how slow women in football in Sri Lanka is progressing. However, I understand that it is a process and will take some more time and I need to be patient and for now, work with what I have in order to achieve my goals.
