Nayara’s CAS Journey

My extra-curricular activities at OSC

My CAS Goals!!🎯

Creativity:

I’ve always wanted to try and do Model UN (MUN). My goal in it will be to improve and develop my leadership, research, writing, public speaking and problem solving skills. Additionally, whilst doing all that, MUN will also help me in my Global Politics class as I learn skills of negotiation, conflict resolution and cooperation. I will do this every Monday for 1 hour. Moreover, MUN is a new challenge for me and has the potential for me to become more aware of my own strengths and areas of growth. As well as the fact that I will develop my international-mindedness through global issues, global engagement, and intercultural understanding. Finally, we will be organizing OSCs annual Unity in Diversity Day on October 5th. Which is a chance for the OSC community to come together and celebrate all the different cultures represented at our school. I am also hoping to be a delegate and participate in the COMUN (Coornhert Model United Nations) in around late February or early March.

Activity:

My goal is to improve upon my football skills (both individual and in-game); thus, I want to become more aware of my own strengths and areas of growth. I will do this by doing football training for 1 hour every Saturday with the Colombo Kickerz Academy. Then, on Sunday’s, I will also play football for 1 hour and 30 mins with my dad, my brother, and a variety of other people interested in football. I will be doing this until SAISA Girls Football season starts, which is shortly after November. Furthermore, I am doing this in order to prepare for the SAISA season; which is important as I want to individually improve and help my team to place in the top 3 this season. This will definitely be me, and us, undertaking a great challenge and hopefully develop/learn a lot of new skills on the way. Finally, as this is a team sport, my goal will also be to improve upon my collaboration skills.

Service:

I am in the Justice & Equality (J&E) service group. This will be my third year in the service, and my second year as service leader. Last year the J&E service group at OSC was approaching expectations. As service leader in the 2023-24 year I want to help my service do “larger” things in and outside of OSC. This will be done by meeting the service group every Thursday for 1 hour. This will definitely be a new challenge for me; nevertheless, I might become more aware of my own strengths and areas of growth as a leader. For example, I would like to contact the Salvation Army; and see if we could potentially work with some of the girls there by (for example) teaching them English. This will be a student initiated activity where I am able to develop international mindedness through cultural understanding around me. As well as finding another/a new organization/women to work with. Another plan is to continue educating MYP 1s on girls menstruation and aiding them and their peers to respect one another. Finally, as I am striving for a more successful service this year, I hope to persevere in action. Also, we have an Instagram account that we are aiming to be more active on. Moreover we want to connect and empower the community more. We can do this by for example posting role model women or advancements in gender equality and/or equality in general.
