Our 5 day excursion started at a gruesome 3.45am arrival time at our school campus – to be able to catch the early morning train to Anuradhapura from Fort Station. Surprisingly, everybody made it to campus on time – and for good reason, since we initially went to the wrong station from which our train was departing from. Fortunately, since we came so early, we had more than enough time to catch our train at the correct station, which was the Fort Train Station.
The train was a first class express train to Anuradhapura – in the north-central region of Sri Lanka. Our group consisted of 16 in total – 13 students and 3 teachers – which meant that we booked the first few rows of a cabin. Punctually, the train departed on time for our 4 hour, admittedly quite comfortable, journey north-east wards. Most of our group members were knocked out in very deep sleep by the time we got going – however Pep and I stayed up chatting for the whole journey.
