Recruitment imminent

 At the end of the previous year, it was me and only me staying in this service. Two of the members graduated, one left OSC and the other one wanted to try something new. Without enough members, this service cannot continue to run because we have to ensure the security of the children in the pool. Therefore, as the leader of Gecko Inc., I took the microphone at the end of the school assembly and made a speech presenting our service, its importance and its goals. To recruit people, I went into different classes to present and talk in more details about the service. This time, because it was in a classroom, the students could ask questions to better understand the goals of the service Gecko Inc. When the results of the form to subscribe to a service came out, I was pleasantly surprised to see that 8 students had signed up to join Gecko Inc!! I was really happy because it means that all the work I did paid off, but also that the service would continue to run!

By doing this, I overcame personal challenges such as pushing my limits to overcome my shyness. I have to admit that I wasn’t very comfortable in front of the assembly with the whole school. By presenting and promoting my service during the school assembly and taking the lead to go into different classes to recruit more people, I developed my communication and oral skills as well as my leadership skills.

Talking in front of an assembly and classes are two situations that I had the chance to experience. Indeed, it gave me a chance to experience the emotions I could feel in these kinds of situations, such as stress and nervousness. It allowed me to learn how to control them and it will be a very useful skill in the future, in university and even later in life.
