On Saturday, Room to Read organized and ran a Literary Festival at OSC, inviting a number of renown authors to hold workshops and Q&As for the OSC community to participate in. The festival was held from 11:00-19:00, during which time I helped ensure the events ran smoothly and on time, introduced authors, collected donations, and ran a bake sale.

The aim of the whole event was to raise funds through donations and the bake sale so that we can help fund the construction of Vidyaloka school’s library. Additionally, we provided an avenue for the Vidyaloka school children to perform in front of the OSC community as well as giving the OSC community the chance to hear and interact with well known authors such as Yudhanjaya, Rohini Mohan, Sanath Herath and Kai Bird. Additionally we ran a children’s book reading session as well as sun observation session with NASA scientist Dr Henry Throop.

In preparation for the festival I helped with the advertisement through poster design, as well as contributing towards the bake sale by making and bringing lemonade. After the festival I helped pack up the bake sale and other parts of the setup we used. Additionally, during the author sessions I tried to take an engaged role, introducing the authors/performers and asking questions which encouraged interaction between the author(s) and the audience.
