11/03/23- H+H Home Run

This past Saturday, the Housing and Habitat service group hosted their annual home run. Housing and Habitat supports local schools in oiur area by building them furniture. This is a fundraising 5k event, and it involves a route around the local school area. My service group, Care for Paws, helped out with the fundraiser by providing people to help out with water and directional stops along the route. The race began at 8:30, however we had to be at school by 7 to make sure we were all organized and were at our stops before those participating arrived.

I was stationed at the last water stop, along the lake with Ansel and Saskia. Essentially, our job was to help people make the road crossing, and give them water. It involved a lot of collaboration, as we had to split ourselves up between helping people cross the road, and giving out the water, along with making sure people were continuing along the correct route, and informing them this was the last stop for water before finishing.

The influx of people was very varied, with some coming in first on bicycles, others running at very different paces, and some who walked the route. Overall, the event was a success, and although at the end I did look back and wish I had participated in the run, I found helping out to be a very rewarding experience and it was nice to see our OSC community coming together to support a very good cause.
