Documenting a Football Match and the IBDP Art Exhibition

On the 11th of  March, our school participated in a football match against out rival the British School of Colombo. Not only was there a football match happening  but there was the DP2’s final art exhibition where they presented their hard work after two years of training and practice. Gecko Net, the service group that documents OSC’s activities,  needed people to be there to  help promote and celebrate the achievements of both groups. I took the initiative to help in the photography as I wanted to practice my  photography skills.  For this assignment, I brought a 50mm lens for close portrait shots as well as my old 70-200mm lens for action shots of the football match.

The first hour and a half, I focused on photographing the football match. This mainly consisted of me running around the field trying to get as many action shots between each team with an emphasis to make sure that the football was in the picture. I have inspired sports photos from places like Sports Illustrated to get an understanding of how to position and edit my photos so that they look dynamic. As a result after the match, I was very content with how overall my photos turned out.

After the football match I went to participate in the DP 2 Art exhibition. This was the art class’s final project for the year and this exhibition would allow them to celebrate this accomplishment with others. For the exhibition, I used a 50mm lens as I needed to be close to them to get good photos exhibiting their artworks as well.

I had to adjust to meet the indoor lighting which was difficult as the would either be over-exposed or under-exposed. Luckily this gave me the chance to improve my ability to edit photos.
