OLIVER! PRE-PERFORMANCE

One of my favorite things about OSC is its productions! Specifically the musicals. Despite usually having a shortage of cast members that can sing and act well, the performances always turn out exceptional. As a singer, audition and rehearsal periods are often one of my favorite parts of the day.

In OSC’s rendition of Oliver! this year, I had the privilege of being one of the main cast members, Mrs. Corney. Taking on this role really tested my skills as an actor but its heavy musical involvement definitely made it worthwhile. That being said, the work put in by Mrs. Jackson, our directer, and Trae Hicks, an outside theater expert, to bring my acting abilities up to the standard of Mrs. Corney’s character has really improved them. I like to think of my character (and co-actor Mr. Bumble) are the main sources of comedy in the production. Our characters are uncomfortably comical which makes them so much fun to play.

In preparation for our December 5-7th performances, we’ve had ongoing rehearsals 2 times a week for an hour and a half. In these few weeks leading up to the shows, there is still a lot of work to be done and as a result, rehearsal frequency has gone up often meaning the cast is in school on holidays and weekends.

Here’s the trailer for the production:
