Unity in Diversity Day

This year, DP1 had the opportunity to organize workshops for all the other grades at OSC for Unity in Diversity Day. All of us were assigned a specific grade to organize a workshop based on SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), along with a partner. I was assigned grade 10, for whom my partners and I created a presentation informing them about SDG 16. We started off our presentation by explaining what SDG 16 is and what it works towards, and then we had them play Mafia, a game where the civilians of a town have to vote out the mafia before they kill everyone. They played around 2-3 rounds of this game, during which some teachers joined us as well. After the game, we asked them to connect the concept of the game to SDG 16, to which they all had great answers, mainly centered around the civilians working together in order to achieve peace within their community.

Following this game, we had a break, after which we had Grade 10 do a court roleplay in which there were five roles they could choose (witness, jury, judge, lawyer, and criminal).  We gave them three sets of scenarios in a court scene for them to act out in their roles in order for the jury to determine whether the alleged “criminal” was guilty or not guilty. At the end of this court roleplay activity, we again asked them to make connections to SDG 16. Through this workshop, I think that I was able to improve my organization and leadership skills, as I felt that everything went just as we had planned, with everyone cooperating, contributing, and willing to learn, even though we had limited time. This was a great learning experience for me.
