Karven's CAS Journey

Service : RCCI

I have been a member for RCCI ever since last year, and it had been a incredible experience. Our service focuses on working with the students of the RCCI school who suffer from a variety moderate to high mental disabilities. The goal of our service is to help these students develop their fine motor and social skills by engaging their physical and creative faculties. We do this through a variety of engaging activities such as coloring in the art room, playing with them in the gym and the occasional visit to their school and partaking in activities they enjoy there. Fundamentally we are trying to show these students a great time every thursday and this is exemplified by the occasional christmas party or celebration that we host with food, drink and sweets. Another activity that we were fortunate enough to provide them with, was a chance to view the primary production of “Alice in Wonderland” when they did their full dress rehearsal on wednesday.

Overall I feel like the time i spend as a part of this service group has shaped me into a more compassionate person and I am making great progress in my goal to become a service leader and make a meaningful  impact into the lives of this great group of students.
