FIBA 3×3 Tournament:

FIBA court

On the 16th of January, at around 12 pm on a Sunday, I met up with a couple of friends at a friend’s house, all excited and nervous for a basketball tournament. Almost every week, there is a 3v3 FIBA basketball tournament that provides anyone with the opportunity to take part and to try to beat every team and to be the best. However, this time the tournament was a lot bigger than usual as there were around 18 teams that took part in the tournament. When we all arrived at a friend’s house, we all talked about different plays and approaches we could take towards the game. At 1pm, we all kitted up and got ready to go to the basketball court where the tournament was hosted.

As we arrived, we saw so many kids our age, some older and much taller, who were enlisting into the tournament. As we were getting ready for our first game, my stomach was going crazy to the point where I thought I would puke out butterflies. When the tournament started, we were the first team and game of the day. Our first game was a pretty comfortable game and win as we played against a team which was less experience. Between our first and second day, we had almost an hour to relax and think of new strategies.

When our second game came around, we were up against one of the toughest team which ended up being in the finals. In the game, we got out rebounded by a lot as the players a lot taller and more experienced than we were. Unfortunately, we lost that game, which had put us in a tough position as we had to win our next two games in order to qualify to the quarter-finals.

After waiting for about two hours resting and planning, we were up for our third game. In this game, our main priority and focus was our defence, which was really lacking in our second game. This game ended up being 5-8, giving us a win and potentially hope to qualify. We only had about 10-15 minutes before we had our final group game. With a very close and tight game, we came out with a victory by a difference of one point. Because of our three wins, we were in the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals, we were up against a very good team that had boys that were older than us and a lot of taller. Unfortunately, this was our final game of the night. Even though we didn’t get to the finals, we were very proud of ourselves for getting so far for our first time.

Learning Objectives:

LO2: A big challenge was triumphed with this CAS experience, as it was my first time playing an organised basketball game in a tournament in front of a big crowd. This has definitely helped with my confidence when playing basketball as there were a lot of times when I would be afraid to take shots when playing with friends. But after experiencing the anxiety of playing the tournament has miniaturized my anxiety when playing with friends.
