As mentioned in the earlier posts, I am part of the COMUN tech year once again and was tasked with making a video for this year’s conferences. This was to be presented in the UN day as well as for other opening and closing ceremonies. Making this video was a rollercoaster of an experience for many reasons.
I had approximately 5 days to make the video. I decided to use the software DaVinci Resolve since it was a free and easy to use video editing tool. Initially, the other members of the tech team and I thought it was sensible to recycle a couple of clips from a video that was trashed since it was no longer required. Putting those clips together along with a couple of b-rolls exported from YouTube, I had made a 2 minute video that looked pretty good. It consisted of the current, pressing world issues and inspirational speeches from prominent world figures. However, after reviewing it with the other members of the COMUN EXCO team, I had realized that the video was missing the structure it was supposed to have. The video was to deal with all of the committees of the new year and the exact issues they were tackling. The current version of the video was missing specificity to this year’s debate topics.
Therefore, to rectify this, I decided to completely remodel the video. I utilized some of the old clips from the original video I had made that pertained to this year’s topics. I went onto Youtube to find clips on the the specific topics, typically B-rolls since I was strapped for time. After compiling some videos I thought would work and pertained to all the topics, I downloaded them and edited them using Da Vinci Resolve. I added titles to each of the clips so as to depict which part of the conference it depicted. After working on the video for multiple hours, I had finally completed it.
For this CAS experience, I believe that I followed multiple CAS learning outcomes. For example, learning outcome 2. I have demonstrated that I have undertaken challenges and developing skills in the process. Taking up the task for making the COMUN video was quite challenging and I learnt new video editing techniques by watching tutorials on how to use DaVinci Resolve. Another one of the learning outcomes I believe that I demonstrated was LO 5. I required constant feedback from my peers on the video so as to make it better and be more relevant for this year’s conference. Lastly, working on this video made me realize of some of the world’s most pressing issues and educated me on the importance of making a change. This pertains to LO 6.
