Comun has been a very important part of my school life at OSC since 9th grade. Through COMUN I have faced many challenges that were hard for me to overcome and it forced me to come out of my comfort zone and really explore new options. I had come to OSC mid-way in 8th grade, and I saw it as an opportunity to try something new and exciting in 9th grade. I have now been a part of COMUN for 3 years, where I have been a delegate for the first year and deputy head of tech for 10th and 11th grade. My first year was when I was most out of my comfort zone, participating in the debates as a delegate. In 10th grade I was able to join the tech team which was especially memorable for me as I like working with technology in general. These past few years I’ve learned a lot from my experience which has been both good and bad. During my first year, I had been a part of COMUN in person, with the conference being held at out school. In 11th grade, due to the onset of COVID I had the opportunity to make a bigger impact on the organization as the tech team had a bigger workload.
When it comes to the experiences and work I’ve done or participated in, my first year was largely video editing. COMUN has a lot of media which deals with a lot of pictures and videos and this was a large part of what I did in my first year as deputy head of tech. I was able to learn video editing skills such as layering and syncing audio to videos as well as plenty others. My second year of COMUN added a lot of work to my plate and I was mainly helping to maintain the COMUN website, set up zoom calls, editing videos, making sure the online conference ran smoothly etc.
I have high expectations for COMUN this year, which has begun with me making a UN day video. It is my last year and I really want to make it count. I hope to utilize the experience gained over the past two years to have the greatest impact and be remembered as a great deputy head of tech in the COMUN books! DP2 has started off with a rocky start and it’s still not certain whether or not school will start back up, however I believe that by the time COMUN happens for this school year, which will be around March, school will start up and it will be conducted normally hopefully.
I have met LO4 most evidently since I have been a part of COMUN for three straight years. I have also showed LO5 since I have worked with other members of the tech and media team to efficiently divide work. Lastly, I have shown LO1 since I worked on my strengths of working on technology.
