I went to Singapore to participate in a series of theatre workshops with seven other traveling schools. It wasn’t much of a competition, but more of a learning experience where we were exposed to new learning environments. The workshops were very diverse covering topics like staging play-texts, clowning, movement within a space, and more. I also looked at the IB theatre course and gained a lot of insight on how to go about with the different summatives I will face. I learnt quite a lot not only about the IB but also about a lot of different creative processes that I can use for my different summatives. I made many friends, I was exposed to a lot of new drama, and I even watched a few productions that I found very awesome.
There was a rendition of Romeo and Juliet that had me starstruck. I loved how they incorporated a variety of musical numbers in addition to the performance which created quite an interesting effect as it tied in all the scenes together. I thought the changes of lighting were also really fascinating as they used more blue and purple hues to create the feeling of the romantic tragedy displayed in this play.
A new kid called Yethmin ended up going on the trip and it was a very cool experience being with someone new and navigating Singapore with him. Overall this trip was a fantastic change of scenery for me because I gathered and learnt so much from the trip 😍😍😍.
