UN Day 2019

On the 4th of October, OSC celebrated the United Nations Day of 2019. It was an amazing day, full of fun and a lot of food. The best part of UN day is always the food, but this year, as a DP1 student, we were in charge of the presentations.

The DP1 economics and geography students were asked to work with the COMUN students to present this years SDG: gender equality. As an economics and COMUN student, there was a lot of work to do within the group I work with in DP1 and the COMUN students that were a lot younger than me. Overall, I think my group worked very well, we were able to finish our presentations in time and come up with fun and interactive games to play within the classroom that were associated to the topic of gender equality.

My group led the 6&7th graders. This seemed very challenging in the beginning since we had to make sure that we created games and presentations that were suited to the audience we were presenting to. When it came to the day of the presentations, it was such a success! The students in my group were very respectful and they all seemed very eager to learn. They participated in all the exercises we asked them to do and were really vibrant which made the whole morning such a blast!

We started off with an ice breaker, we asked each of them to introduce themselves so we could all settle down after a long gym session. After that, we presented them this year’s SDG and finished with a Quizlet as well as a quick play. My group members and I were really impressed with the way the 6th and 7th graders were focused and respectful to the fact that we were trying to teach them about what today’s topic was.

The DP1 class having soooooo much fun, but also very eager to run to the canteen!

This was such a rewarding day, seeing them have fun and being able to teach them about an important subject. I was really proud of how this turned out, despite the hectic organization that came before the big day.
