OLIVER! – Front Of House

The annual secoundary school production 2019 held and organized by the OSC Theater Group took place two weeks ago. This year’s production was an modern interpretation of the classic musical, OLIVER!. The musical was held at the school auditorium on the 5th, 6th, and the 7th of December 2019. However the students has started rehearsing from September 2019, they were under the guidance of Ms Jackson and Ms Duncan. Due to the fact of this being a secondary school assembly all students from grade 6 to DP 2 were able to take part in the play. Along side the actors was the secoundary school band which was orchestrated by Ms Duncan. The production was a huge success from the acting to the singing and costumes we amazing, resulting in the audience offering huge praise for the production.

As the rehearsal for the production began, students had received an email asking for assistance with the front of house work of the nights the production would take place. So I decided to sign up to help during production night even if it was in a small way, I signed up for the opening night of the play on the 5th of December. On Thursday, me Muneera, and Iris signed up for front of house and got together divided ourselves into ushering people to their seats and also handing out brochures that had information on the production. Me and Muneera were handing out the brochures and also checking the tickets while Iris helped them to their seats. However after production had started Me and Muneera had to wait for any people who were late, we ended up showing a couple of people to their seats as the play was going on.

In the end we were able to show everyone to their correct seats without any mistakes, I would call it a successful effort from all of us. It was my first time helping at a secoundary school production at OSC and I had a really good experience. The whole process only took around 40 minutes and it proved to be fun and a interesting experience. Throughout the night I learned how to take responsibility for a situation, as each of us were given specific task. I really enjoyed the experience and look forward to assisting for next years secoundary school production, the night just left me wondering what I can expect from next OSC production. It also made me consider more ways for me help and potentially playing in the secoundary school band.
