QUARANTINE DIARIES 6: ART. ART. ART.

If there’s one benefit to staying at home,  the creativity it initiates within me is definitely one of them, as it results in the creation of multiple art pieces. Spending my break times from zoom scrolling through Pinterest, Instagram, and Artsy trying to find inspiration for new art pieces has become an addiction of mine.

Having endless pins to look through, it seems as though I can’t get enough, hence why I find myself more than twice a week painting at 2 am. Although it’s not the best for my sleep schedule, I definitely think that painting and creating collages every single day not only gives me a break from sitting in front of my computer, but it allows me to be more productive in my other classes as well as it gets my creative juices flowing and allows me to expand my knowledge in other areas as well.

As observable on the left-hand side, this is one of the first pieces I created during this new ‘at home- school’ period. The medium is acrylic on canvas, and I don’t have a title for it yet, but the reason I chose to utilize this ‘thermal’ impression on a woman’s body, is because it relates to my IBDP Visual Arts exposition theme, which is gender. I have decided that I want to relate all my trial pieces throughout quarantine to my Visual Arts class as it will help me decide what I want to create for my final pieces and it also allows me to trial different techniques and mediums for it.

I also chose to create a second painting so far, which we can observe down below, and it follows a similar pattern of ‘thermal’ impression through female bodies, but this time it’s through different shades of pink rather than multicolor, which is the typical version of it. This, once again, relates back to my IBDP Visual Arts theme of gender, particularly female and male stereotypes in the 21st century (explanation of the relationship between my artworks and the theme will be given in my art process journal).

Overall, I feel as though creating these pieces is a form of meditation for me, as it helps me take my mind off school and gives me the chance to be 100% creative with what I want to paint, how I want to paint it, and when I want to paint it. I enjoy the freedom of expressing myself and my ideas through my artwork and I also love showing them to my friends and family and receiving their feedback for further pieces!!
