Staying Active

This year has been full of ups and downs, of being at school in person or online, and of my motivation. One of my biggest challenges this year was not being able to swim and because of that, losing my main form of exercise. Exercise is something that I have a love-hate relationship with. I love the idea of exercising and the way I feel during and after I exercise and workout, but I hate the moments preceding the actual workout. My mom is definitely my biggest motivation to exercise because she is always doing something active and encouraging me to be more active as well. We play badminton, frisbee, and Wiffle ball in the backyard, take the dog on long walks and do yoga, dance workouts, and HIIT workouts.

Every Monday and Thursday (that I don’t have service) my mom and I go to Gregory’s road to take part in a small outdoor HIIT. In these classes, we do several styles of HIIT with lots of different exercises. We do Tabata workouts, wall workouts, normal HIIT workouts, resistance band workouts, and workouts with specific muscle focuses such as abs or legs or upper body or even back and chest. The classes are around 40 to 60 minutes and leave my body sore the next day, but that’s how I know my body worked hard.

With summer only 2 weeks away, I want to find new ways to be active whether it’s running, hiking, biking, or trying out new sports games with my friends and family. I plan to walk every day and run when the weather gets normal and do different workouts every day to work on my general strength.
