DP 1 Orientation – Kitulgala

First Day:

As soon as we got to Kitulgala, we immediately got set up for some white water rafting. The river was super cold that it was so hard to just go into it to do some safety drills. I remember someone gripping my hand with their shivering hands like it was life or death. Thankfully I wasn’t too affected by the cold and it was easy for me to get comfortable even if I fell into the water. The rapids were also super fun to go through because it was such a challenge to stay in the raft and paddle in the rapids at the same time and when there were bigger rapids, I was in the front of the raft so I would get splashed by so much water. As soon as we finished white water rafting, we went canyoning. It felt amazing. The leaches sucked, literally. It was not fun. I had a really bad time with the leaches but I’m sure there were a lot more people who had worse. Canyoning was really fun because there were a lot of cool spots to hang out and a few spots where would jump into the water. There were also a few rocks that turned into slides. After jumping off a 5 meter jump, we climbed a rope to get back onto the trail to get back to the camp. The guides thought it was safe enough to go through the baby rapids in the water to get back to the camp. The water was freezing still so when we got back to the camp, there were a lot of people shivering so they gave us some hot soup.

We then were allowed to take showers because it was nearly dinner time. When Sam and I were about to go for a shower, we literally saw an apostle of death. The creapiest, and strangest creature i have ever seen was inside the showers so we had to go al the way to the showers in the long house.

The cabins we got to sleep in were also horrendous but we got used to it in no time.
