Eleez’s Service: Future Projects

Since last year my service group: Room to Read has expanded, we have gained new members and because of this, we wanted to start the year well. We have been continuing our popular and successful Books N’ Cookies which aids in bringing the community much closer together by sharing our interests in short lunchtime sessions.

In one of the sessions, we had the principal of our partnership school come (Bapajaya) with her team to visit our school as well as talk about the aid they have received. At the end of the session, we handed over funds raised by Soundshala through the efforts of Mrs Michelle LeBlanc to help build their library.

We also had a charity event which aimed to raise money from people in the community to then donate to Ekamuthu Preschool in Hambantota. The money we received would then be used to purchase uniforms and stationery for the school children.

Since our first service session, we had also been planning a large-scale event to gain funds. One of our new members, Jade had suggested a karaoke night and this immediately took flight.

Thus, far we have designed tickets, assigned roles for food and event planning as well as a few other logistical things. We plan on hosting this event on the evening of November 4th. We had planned on collaborating with SGA however, had decided against this for various reasons, mainly because we didn’t want this event to be multiple events coming together.

As of right now we are on track to hosting the event and believe there will be a successful turn out which will help us raise a substantial amount of funds for our cause.
