It already is the second quarter of the school year my service group: Room to Read has made significant progress as not only have been been able to donate funds we’ve also been able to obtain more for our cause.
This fine Thursday morning (November 3rd 2022) some of my service group and our service teacher, Ms Lockwood visited the Bapajaya Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya to attend the opening of their school’s new library which was achieved with our help and guidance.
Despite having been in the service for almost three years, I have never visited the school. I was looking forward to seeing the conditions of the school myself. I was glad to see that our efforts had shown, seeing the school children happy enlivened us.
We got to meet some of the younger school children, get a tour of the school and talk to some of the school heads about our upcoming plans to help the school.
This afternoon during service we were very busy achieving the two goals we planned on achieving by the end of the session.
- Goal 1: Pack 3 boxes of books to donate
- Goal 2: Print and ready ticket booklets for the Karaoke Night to sell from tomorrow onward
We had planned to fill three large boxes with enough books for children from PreK – 5th Grade but ended up packing an additional one with more non-fiction and chapter books. We even included some wrapped books we had received earlier to send out.
As mentioned in my previous service post we have plans to host a Karaoke Night to raise some funds for our partner school. We have decided to move the event date to November 25th. We felt this was a better date as we could have everything ready by then. A few logistical changes have also been made. Instead of having the event be in the auditorium, we figured the library would be a much better option given the control we have over the space (this idea was rejected earlier because we thought the library would be too small)
Overall, the session was quite productive and we are ready to begin selling our tickets tomorrow. Thevuni and I sent out an email to the entire secondary school and teachers to promote the event.
We hope there to be a successful turnout allowing us to raise a substantial amount of funds to further aid the school.
