I got the chance to go to a national park called Jathika Namal Uyana with some friends and family. At the very end of the park there is a rose quartz mountain you can climb. We visited at noon so it was very very hot, despite the immense heat the sun was valuable as it made the free climb up this mountain much easier given the dry surface. The texture of the rock was quite cool. Climbing this mountain was really fun as there nobody else besides us was really around, so we had the whole place to ourselves.

Walking in the park itself is quite terrifying as not a lot of sunlight peaks through the canopy.

I recall walking through tangled vegetation and almost stepping on some kind of snake. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a good picture of it but it was brown or black and VERY long.

The next day we decided to visit Sigirya, I had already been in the past but a lot of the people I was with hadn’t so we thought it would be a good idea to go see this renowned archaeological site. Because it was the day after Sinhala Tamil New Year there were A LOT of people. We visited her at noon as well so it was once again very hot.

I am terrified of heights so the climb up from the lion’s paws onwards is my least favourite bit. The view did not disappoint but no matter how many times I climb Sigiriya those gaps between the stairs will never not be scary.

Whence we got back down we all had ice cream and befriended a very sweet ice cream man who told very interesting stories about all the people he has met.
