For this years UN day, the DP 1 students were split up in groups to teach primary school kids about this years SDG goal of focus. SDG 11. “Sustainable Development Goal 11, titled “sustainable cities and communities” The goal for this part of UN day was to educate the primary kids on sustainable cities and how to be a sustainable citizen, so as they grow up they understand the problems and solutions to become sustainable. My group for this project was Sho-ji, Thisath and I, and we wanted to create a fun interactive experience for the primary kids. We started with a small presentation, asking and talking with the kids if they knew ways we can be sustainable in a city, and if they already take action to be sustainable at home or at school. We then showed them sustainable energy sources, such as wind and water, and biogas. Conveniently enough our school has a biogas plant, so we took the primary kids down to the biogas plant to show them the process of synthesizing sustainable energy and to cook them popcorn as a nice little fun interactive aspect for the kids. We asked a couple of the eager kids to shovel the cow manure, to feed the plant so we could have some gas to cook the popcorn. Overall, this experience was great for us and the kids so we could show some leadership skills and they had a fun time, and got to eat popcorn. One kids even said “this is the best day ever!”
