SGA has spent the most of the first semester dedicating ourselves to setting up a constitution to help future SGAs run smoother. However, this meant that we were late to start with fundraising for OSCars, our prom, an event that tragically needs a lot of money. So this is our way of amending that long overdue deadline and starting off with a sweet treat everyone loves: ice cream! A creative solution to the demanding heat of the day.
I will be the first to call out that SGA has been dormant for quite some time this year, and as deadlines approach not only for assessments but also for booking the venue for OSCars. In order to do this in time we need to raise the right amount of money so that is the main thing that this fundraiser is focusing on as well as just putting the SGA into peoples minds.
We decided on 3 primary flavours that cater to a wide age range: vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. We hosted it on a Wednesday lunch time as it overlapped with the primary lunch time allowing us to cash in on the young kids who are sugar crazed. One issue we faced was that the ice cream melted quickly which led to hasted scoops. We somehow managed to cash in on this by selling cones dipped in the melted ice cream for 150 LKR. People wanted to buy cones by themselves as they didn’t have enough for a scoop which we priced at 400 LKR to get enough profit. We started off slow but then as some of the SGA members ran around with scoops selling on the go, it drew more people towards out stall.
I think this was a successful fundraiser and we collaborated well to create it. Hopefully in the future we can recycle this idea and do it more time to raise more funds for events.
