I have been very lucky to be an ambassador again this year and have really enjoyed my role. However, since DP2 isn’t receiving a new student this year, I had no one to guide around school. So I was tasked with accompanying Dr Mechum, our secondary principal, in giving the parents a tour.
This is my third and final year as an OSC ambassador and I have enjoyed it a lot. From the tours around school, helping students get to classes, asking questions they might be too scared to ask I love all of it. However, the thing that I love most of all is that I get to meet so many people. I’m a very social person and have over the course of my life met many amazing individuals. I am able to strike up a conversation about anything, can quickly find an answer to things I might not yet know or immediately direct the person to someone who does. I haven’t always been very social. I can still recall how when I was in Egypt, parents would get tours for the school and a new girl would be joining our class. Our teacher implored us to introduce ourselves. I can still remember clearly the sickening feeling that fell in my stomach as it twisted in fear. Instead of backing out or hiding I stood up, walked over to the girl and introduced myself. She ended up being my best friend for the year she attended. Had it not been for 6 year old me to swallow my fear I would not have been able to take on this job today.
For today I first brought the primary parents to the PMPR for the presentation then joined the ambassadors with the secondary parents in the auditorium. Even though I have sat through the presentation many times, the way the school leaders convey the information grabs my attention every time. I was also made aware of the new timetable which was very helpful.
After the presentation I guided the teachers around the campus answering any questions they might have. I became well acquainted with them and was so happy to know that they all wanted whats best for their children with them asking questions about music lessons, productions and even wishing they could have their kids at this school for longer.
After the boss of skinny suddha, our canteen provider, Richard gave an explanation about how the system worked and introduced to us some new menu options such as more vegan foods. I found it very kind that he took the feedback to heart and put a positive spin on it to turn it into a learning opportunity so that he could give us the best canteen experience possible.
