It’s the end of DP 1. I can’t believe how fast time has passed and how much stuff I have done both in and out of school so I wanted to take a moment to reflect on each of my CAS goals for this year and recap some new ones.
Creativity
My goal was to work with yearbook and although I originally wanted it to be student submitted, I’m happy with all the pictures I had access to as many of them included ones that I know for a fact students will love to see.
This probably was one of my most stressful goals since I had to wait for everybody to send in their pictures, edit every page with a programme that was new to me and many other moments of last minute editing. I had to send a folder of all the pictures of yearbook the day of the printing since they didn’t link correctly but I am happy it’s over. Would I do this again next year? Probably not, since I will be in DP2 with more tasks and have less time to do something that will take up so much of my time but I’m happy with the experience it has granted me.
Activity
For my activity I killed two birds with one stone by applying my yoga from Duke of Edinburgh to CAS as well. My goal was to create a 10 minute session for flexibility and meditation, which I can do when I’m travelling and am limited to smaller spaces. Nowadays there are so many things going on in the world so it will help me stay calm amidst the chaos of the world and the Diploma Programme. I find it important to ground myself and think through things so taking time to do some yoga and become more aware of my body will benefit me greatly as an individual.
Although I haven’t been doing it as often as I would have liked, it was the perfect way for me to wind down after a day if I just wanted to clear my mind. I achieved this goal very soon with the help of my mentor, who showed me the sun salutations flow and some yin yoga both of which focus on doing the poses accurately and slowly. I have felt many moments of stress through my first year in DP so this was a perfect goal to achieve as I still do it to this day.
Service
I made an entire post dedicated to my Eco-School moments but here I wanted to talk about my goal and how I accomplished it. My goal for this year was to host more events. Eco-Schools is a service that does a lot of behind the scenes work and we don’t always communicate and show our achievements off. The Eco-Schools committee achieved so much this year with the Green Flag Award being just one of them.
My goal this year was to lead the community into being more aware of the environment by leading Eco-Schools for this academic year. I wanted to do more community events to make them take more conscious eco-friendly decisions. I have always been an advocate for the environment and its rapid changes have pushed me to want to ensure that our school manages its footprint on nature.
I would say I successfully achieved these goals by organizing the baton relay and Earth Day assembly. The whole school attended both of these events and with all the information being relayed there, I am sure even just one thought entered their mind.
