I’ve recently started my silver Duke of Edinburgh journey. I achieved my bronze award not long ago and the moment I got it I knew I wanted to do silver. I had my doubts when starting the award journey. Questioning my ability to juggle it as well as my subjects and the multitude of other projects I involve myself in. I soon found out it was a lot easier than I thought because all I did was register the things I already do and work towards whilst achieving my award!
I wanted to introduce my activity, service and creativity on here so I could keep track of my achievements and remind myself of the aims I have.
ACTIVITY – Running (in the home run)
It’s evident to me that running is my favourite way of burning off energy. Whether it’s around the house, when walking my dog or zoning out on the treadmill at the gym, its something I can really lose myself in.
So when picking my activity, I decided to take something I already do and make a challenge out of it. I have always wanted to partake in the annual housing and habitat home run but I never thought of myself as strong enough. So I decided to mentally sign myself up for it next year. No excuses! I will have to train my stamina, figure out ways to stop getting stitches in my sides and regulate my breathing but that’s what makes it a worth wile activity as I will be focusing a lot on my body and how to take care of it.
service – Eco-schools
Now I’m continuing Eco-Schools because I love it so much. Ever since I came to OSC I joined this service and have organized many events with it. Which is something I want to do again. Eco-schools has to get very creative with their events because instead of raising money for charity, we are raising awareness about the environment. I hope that together with my amazing team, I will be able to come up with interesting events that will make every single student in the school want to take part and conscious of our earth.
Creativity – little shop of horrors
Next academic year, the school musical will be Little Shop of Horrors. Since this will be my last theatrical performance at school, I want to make it special and that means I will be aiming for roles of the main cast.
However, a musical involves a lot of singing especially for the main cast who will have solo songs. I am not that confident in my voice or my acting capabilities for protagonists so I am dedicating my time towards preparing myself for the roles.
I’m going to do acting activities weekly as well as practicing vocal runs of the songs in the musical itself to get familiar with it and ace the audition.
I can’t wait to see how this will turn out and on what path it might take me next!
