As of recent, Eco-Schools has been under some stress once more. Drafting up a report on the sustainability of our school and all its community members. But we’ve already got our first green flag award…and the other one is 2 years away! So why are we doing this?
Well we have yet another award possibly coming our way. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA), who gives our school the accrediting authority, reached out to OSC to become the first school in the world to apply to their new Program of Distinction of Sustainability. Now MSA come round to visit school this upcoming October, and we need our proposal submitted before the summer which puts us in a race against time.
Now it’s a lengthy application document, with many spaces for students, administration, teachers, staff and every person in the community to fill in. We started of our first session on this matter assigning everyone roles, but quickly found out the most that the student body could do was list our achievements. Most of the things the proposal asks us highlight are involvement within the curriculum, percentage of school involvement in sustainable practices which are things we don’t have access to. However, we do have amazing teachers within our Eco-Committee such as Ms Melinda, Mr Poulus and Mr Lockwood all of which have great relations to other teachers and can reach out to them to ensure we can convey all this important information.
In our Eco-Schools meetings we have been ensuring all parts of the application are getting slowly filled, they carry lots of weight but the more we get done during the sessions the less we will have to do in our free time where many of us are busy with exam prep and other important events.
As of now I can’t disclose anything else but am looking forward to this exciting journey!
