A new CAS Goal – Serenading Everyone 🎸

I have found that my current creativity for CAS of yearbook isn’t that fulfilling for me. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy doing it but I am not getting the creative freedom I thought I would have. I often find myself slacking and need to push myself on it as I’ve lost a bit of interest. I still plan on finishing this up but whilst reflecting on my experience I saw how I needed something that interested me. And one thing that will forever interest me is music.

I’ve always wanted to learn an instrument and since harp is a bit far fetched with the availability and pricing to play such an instrument I found the next best thing. Guitar. I have lots of friends who know how to play guitar and at our school we have an amazing guitar teacher Mr Marlon who is now giving me lessons, and quickly teaching me chords, so I would have lots of support from people.

So my goal is to learn to play the guitar and all the chords, and record a cover of a song and publish it by the end of semester 1 in DP 2. It sounds a bit ambiguous considering there is going to be a prolonged time during the summer where I won’t be able to practice because of no access to a guitar but I am sure I will be able to persevere through the pain on my finger tips, casual forgetfulness of the chords, stressing over why a string sounds twangy, taking lots of time to switch between chords and so much more.

This is definitely going to be a bit of a challenge but I know I will find my strengths and grow during the process.

I have already started off with the songs you are my sunshine where I learned the D, G, and A chords.

I then progressed to perfect learning the E minor, C and D chords.

Then to rolling in the deep moving onto more complex chords such as A minor, E and F.

I talked to Mr Marlon about wanting to eventually learn to play the song Tummy by Tamino. I love Taminos songs because he plays with Egyptian musical influences as he is half Egyptian and half Belgian which show some representation and connection to me. Mr Marlon put on the song and told me about some new chords we would learn with it. This one being a version of F sharp (F#).

Currently I am halfway through the song but am aiming to fully know it by the end of the year.
