Volleyball was a challenging experience for me as it was my 1st time ever trying for a volleyball team. During these 6 weeks in volleyball I’ve learned a new sport which I’m proud of because it shows I’ve expanded my comfort zone in sports. I’ve also improved my skill of working together in a team which I believe is necessary on court and out court. All the players whom I played with weren’t new to me but I felt more connected with them during this volleyball season. During the training and games I’ve realized how interconnected volleyball is with other ball sports such it has the same basic fundamentals of finding space, calling for a receive or pass, blocking, etc.
At the beginning I thought joining volleyball might be a risk because of my study loads in DP and also because I’ve never tried volleyball by which I always had fears such as getting hit by the ball, diving, and all other pains, and maybe I’ll not suit with the team. However since the 1st day in volleyball, I realized this sport might be my next interest and it felt opposite to what I’ve feared about. Volleyball didn’t interfere with my studies but however it made my schedule even better as after volleyball I was well energized and my mind was freshened for doing my studying.
In volleyball I mostly played as a libero, which I enjoyed the most in this experience. Libero can be basically defined as the person who dives on the ground to receive the ball and after 1st two practices my fear of diving was gone.
I joined volleyball with an aim to learn a new sport and I never thought of being selected for the OSC Boys Volleyball SAISA team 2018, and neither could I have traveled for SASIA due to expenses. However at the end of the season I was surprised when our volleyball coach said she wanted to me to travel to SAISA with our boys volleyball team. That day I realized that trying out a new sport will always have a positive result at the end.
Volleyball season has come to an end and our team is prepared for the SAISA tournament. I think our team is well trained and equipped for SAISA in Nepal and especially our defense is quite strong and very hard to break. I hope we do great in SIASA and I wish our boys all the best for the tournament.
