Volleyball and Basketball

The past few weeks we’ve been able to join after school activities once again and two that I joined are volleyball and basketball. Arguably the best thing about it is being active around other people. Working out at home can be fun but there isn’t the competitive spirit and encouragement that exists in team sports.

In volleyball we’ve mostly just been practicing the basic skills and then trying to apply them to either a full game or in something fun like queen of the court.

Personally, I’m trying to learn how to overhand serve, because I’ve never been able to do it before, and I’m slowly getting better.

However, this week was special because we got the opportunity to play a game against an outside team. This was super exciting for me as I’ve never played an organized game of volleyball before. At the start of the game I was pretty nervous mostly for just fear of messing up my positioning or not being able to bump or set properly.

But after playing for a bit I think we got into a better groove, things became more fun and natural vs stressful.

Here’s me serving during the 3rd set

In the end we lost all 3 sets I left the game super happy and excited for the next one. Just being able to play sports with a team again and compete against another school or club is amazing.

In basketball we’ve also been practicing the fundamentals, like lay ups, jump shots, free throws and applying it to the game. But the hardest thing for me is dribbling I can do the simple dribbling with my left or right hand and front crossovers but anything through the legs or behind the back is a big struggle for me. I think my favorite thing to do is work on being a good defender.
