MARGIN Meeting

MARGIN ( a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice group) aims to sustain OSC’s vision and mission to empower learners toward intercultural understanding of all groups of people.

MARGIN is committed to upholding OSC’s motto of “Unity in Diversity” through education campaigns, discussions, guest speakers, presentations, documentaries, and more.

As a group we decided to change our name from DEIJ to MARGIN to make it more convenient for use.

In the previous weeks we acknowledged the autism awerness day, where our whole group and additionally few more students watched a TED talk by Temple Grandin called “The world needs all kinds of minds”. We then reflected upon our understanding on how sensory learning methods may change according to the person.

Ethics of choices & Actions:

As a group we though that autism awerness day does not get enough recognition within our school community. Therefore we decided to draw attention to this day by organizing a meeting during lunch and educated ourselves as well as other students who are willing to.  This was an ethical choice on our behalf since we need to our community more exposed to national recognition days and be accepting of  all kinds of individuals.

Engagement with Global Issues:

The global issue that wee covered through this months was thee failure of inclusion within education systems, as they are designeed to teach and support only one kind of learning; memorization. We talked about how different ways of teaching could be used within classrooms and engage all students. We also discussed how autistic and many other students with learning challenges may find it difficult to follow a class if only one teaching method is being used. We came to conclusion that there should be visual, verbal, team activity based, individual work activities within all classes as well as  real life connections, to endorse a better learning experience for kids.
