My extra-curricular activities at OSC

Oil Painting

I decided to paint with oil painting for the first time, I tried to draw a simple painting of a woman to experiment with the paint.

New Skills:

This was my first time painting with oil paint and it was a different experience for me as I often use acrylic paint. I undertook a new challenge in an order to develop a new skill. It was harder for me to work with this paint as it took longer to dry, therefore making it harder for me to layer and create shades. It was also thicker so painting small details was quite challenging. However as I kept going on It got easier to manage, as I further developed my brush skills. With the basic initial knowledge I have gained from this, I will keep experimenting with oil painting and building onto my new skills to get better at it.

Strengths and Areas of growth:

Although the finished outcome was not exactly the same as the reference, I think I have gained a lot of knowledge by attempting to re-create it. As well as enabling me to experiment with oil painting, this activity helped my with my human sketching skills. Therefore helping me improve/practice my already existing skills as well as helping me achieve an area of growth by trying a new paint and a painting style.
