For UN Day, the language department organised workshops within which the French B class of DP students had the opportunity to expose French culture to the kids in pr

imary school. Lucca, Sara, Sam and I gave a presentation on crepes that originated from France for kindergarten. One difficulty we experienced was designing a presentations suitable for kindergardeners as they don’t really have the ability to read and understand a lot of information. Thus, we added a lot of pictures and less text to keep children engaged. After presenting for around 5 minutes, we had a race around the classroom where the kids we able to experience flipping a crepe on a pan.

I also had the opportunity to hold another presentation with Sasindu and Thisathma on Sri Lankan music as an introduction into Sri Lankan culture. Within the time slot, we also had them dance to a popular Sri Lankan baila song and taught them some Sinhala words.

Learning Objectives:

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

We learned how to design presentations suitable for younger audiences since they have a low attentionspan and can’t really take much information in at a time. Therefore, we adapted the presentation to be more image based in order to keep the engaged and interested.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

By working in a group, we were able to be more engaging with the Kindergardeners and work more productively to create a suitable presentation by bouncing ideas off each other.
